Blogger and mum Simone writes The Bottom of the Ironing Basket, a magazine-style blog filled with daily inspirations on home, design, travel and life in London.
First Impressions
What a stunningly beautiful and romantic header, accompanied by a simple yet chic design with aspirational appeal. Love it! You gain the reader’s attention from the get-go!
TOP TIP: Use social media buttons rather than text links and place them together at the top of your sidebar, so readers can follow you more easily.
Header and Menu Bar
The font for your blog title is pretty but a little hard to read. How about experimenting with an equally stylish yet more rounded font? Also your About Me category is a little bit lost in the menu bar.
TOP TIP: Perhaps you could move the About Me tab further along to the left, as readers’ eyes are more naturally drawn from left to right? Also think about adding a mini About Me section near the top of your sidebar (the section marked Hello), along with a photo if you wish, so visitors can quickly find out who’s behind the blog.
Sidebar
There is rather a lot of white space between the section headings in your sidebar, perhaps you could make them more even? Also think about moving your TOTS 100 and Page Rank buttons higher up as these are good selling points for your blog.
TOP TIP: Reducing or even removing the Labels section would open up some more space for potential advertisers.
Main Content
Beautifully written, personal and highly descriptive, you take your reader on a journey across time and place. Your New York post was truly captivating and your photos perfectly illustrate your content and tone of voice.
TOP TIP: Consider setting your body copy to flush left, rather than having centred text, so that your posts are even easier to read.
Final Thoughts
A stylish and well-written blog covering a mix of popular topics, from food to beauty, with great originality and flair.
