Rachelle is exactly the type of client I envisioned working with when we formed Mothers & Shakers. A hyper-busy, newly-single mum of three, Rachelle was running a floral design business, while trying to find more work as a freelance food stylist, and chef/teacher.
Like many creative individuals, Rachelle was struggling with an overload of ideas, as well as how to practically apply her unique skills and strengths. She was toying with the idea of blogging, but had no idea where to start.
Business Design
After our initial consultation, Rachelle took advantage of our Shake it Up starter package, designed to help her launch her business online, as well as to provide creative and marketing tools she could use in the ‘real world’.
Our team held a 2-hour brainstorming session, assessing every element of her business and branding. Rachelle was planning to operate under a name (Teach Eats) that we felt was descriptive, but a little dry. We came up with the warmer, catchier name Love Learn Cook, a natural fit for the passionate teacher/chef!
Tip Sheets
We followed up our initial brainstorm with a series of email exchanges to really lock down Rachelle’s brand vision. Then we provided her with tip sheets on each aspect of her business, including local and email marketing, editorial style and tone, blog look and feel, and even a video blogging primer!
Finally, we put Rachelle in touch with a logo designer who helped her capture the vintage, 50s-homemaker-meets-modern-mama vibe that is at the heart of Rachelle’s appeal.
Rachelle is a highly-talented individual with immense potential, and a real pleasure to work with. We’re following her progress with a sense of pride, and more than a little bit of awe!
Client Feedback
Here’s what Rachelle had to say about working with Mothers & Shakers:
‘I bumped into Uju in our local coffee shop and after chatting a few times she mentioned that she was part of a team of women in social media and creative marketing. I mentioned I was trying to launch myself into the food industry. Uju said Mothers & Shakers could help me with everything from setting up a blog, to branding and marketing to drum up new business.
Being a sole trader, you can feel lost with all the promotional stuff, and having no one to bounce ideas off (except for your friends who always say nice things)! It’s been amazingly helpful to have professional women at the high end of what they do, offer me their expert, tailored advice. It’s given me loads of confidence; especially having these tip sheets to work from, and also knowing that if I have a question, the Mothers & Shakers team are just a phone call, or an email away.
Over the next couple of weeks, I’m using the tip sheets to implement my marketing strategy!
Since launching my blog, and following the advice from MaSh, I’ve found I’m getting a lot more work. The marketing is coming more naturally to me, and I’ve even landed a couple of jobs through Twitter. I’ve started writing a food column for an international fashion magazine, and I’m pitching to write for local press. I’ve begun working with Channel 4 as a cook and food stylist for TV shows, such as The Fabulous Baker Brothers; I’m promoting my own recipes and my own photography. It’s all good!’
