Nearly 10 years ago I became a mum, and that has changed my life completely. After leaving sunny Sydney and moving to London, I continued my professional journey as an ESL teacher (English to foreigners) at a college in central London.
My day consisted of commuting by tube for an hour, teaching for 9 hours, commuting back home to spend a little time with my husband. I used to love our weekends when we did not have to rush anywhere, and just enjoyed being together and basically doing anything we wanted.
Then we had the amazing news about my pregnancy and things started moving in another direction, but I had no idea how big the changes into the world of parenting will be.
After becoming a mum, which was undoubtedly the best thing in my life, my days have changed from being a super busy teacher to a stay-at-home full time mum. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved looking after my little baby girl, but I was also missing something and felt that changing nappies, feeding and going for long walks was great but not everything I wanted in my life.
Luckily my husband has soon realised I needed to have a project to focus on where I would use my new skills and as he worked in media, he suggested to start a parenting blog with my personal advice and affiliate links to products I used as a new mum.
I loved the idea, but was also scared as back then I had no idea what a “blog” was! I learnt how to use HTML coding and build my first blog on Blogger platform.
Fast forward and here we go, nearly 8 years later and I am a full-time professional blogger and social media advisor! Who would know back then that blogging and social media would be huge one day, and that people can actually have blogging as their career?
I am a clean example of what can be done if you work hard, that anything is possible. Some of my friends who are school mums have been inspired to start blogs too, which is a great thing to do and often ask me for advice.
If I can offer any advice to people who are thinking of starting a blog, it would be to think about why you want to blog and what you expect from blogging. Find your niche, think hard about your name as it is much harder to do so later when your brand has been out there for a while.

Be sociable! There are so many social media platforms, and you would have to be online 24/7 to be on them all. I suggest to try a few, find what you like the best. You must enjoy what you are doing otherwise people will not interact back. Pick 3 platforms and communicate! By the way, my favourite 3 platforms are Twitter @Kahanka, Instagram @Kahanka and YouTube.
Many bloggers still blog only for their personal pleasures, which is fine, but there are many more people who would like to make money from blogging.
Everything is possible but just remember, it has taken me quite a few years of hard work and dedication to be where I am now. It did not happen over night, and I am working more hours than many people can imagine, but I love blogging and am very proud of my career change.
