It’s been three incredible months since we launched!
We’ve been blown away by the response from day one, with feedback on Twitter like:
So what exactly does a Mother & Shaker do?
Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ve been up to in our first quarter (amidst running our own blogs and freelance projects, and making time for our families too!):
Awards & Conferences
Vicki and Penny were finalists at the Brilliance in Blogging Awards, and Penny scooped an award for Best Commentary with the fantastic Team Honk for their work with Comic Relief.
Penny and Jacqui both spoke on panels at the BritMums Live conference, even though Jacqui had managed to lose her voice that morning!
Across the pond, Maria joined the ‘press pool’ for upcoming conference BlogaliciousFIVE!
And Mirka is one of the judges for the Product of the Year Awards, coming up in 2014.
Public Appearances
We’ve been chatting up radio hosts, with Uju guesting on BBC London Breakfast Show in July and Laura featuring on the Robert Elms Show in August.
And this September, Penny joined several bloggers on a mission to the Houses of Parliament to advocate for Maurice Saatchi’s Medical Innovation Bill, seeking to promote medical innovation for cancer treatment. Follow the bill’s progress on Twitter with #SaatchiBill
In October Uju will represent Mothers & Shakers giving a Social Media talk at the Calthorpe Project, as part of Bloomsbury Babies’ Parent-Cubator initiative funded by the RBS Inspiring Women in Enterprise programme!
Around the Web
We’ve been offered guest spots on popular blogs like The Bottom of the Ironing Basket, where Uju shared insights about our vision and goals.
And don’t miss Jacqui’s fab post for Cision UK on how blogging can help you reclaim your business mojo after having kids.
Get in touch if you’d like to feature Mothers & Shakers on your blog or web site, or if you’d like to be considered for our upcoming expert Q&A series!
Bloggers, Brands, Clients!
Since launch, we’ve been approached by dozens of creative businesses from across the UK, as well as countries like France and the Netherlands.
We’re currently working with a mix of clients, ranging from app makers to kids’ style bloggers.
Here’s what one of our clients, the lovely Becky of Family Budgeting, had to say about our Premium Blog Critique.
We’ve got loads more blogs lined up for our popular free one-page critique.
Going Forwards
During this period, two of our members have lost their fathers to long-term illnesses. How Nomita and Mirka have coped with their personal losses is a tribute to their individual courage, grace and positive outlook on life.
This is what being a real Mother & Shaker means to me — having the guts to keep going confidently in the direction of your dreams, even in times of great difficulty.
I’m especially proud of how our team has rallied around them, underlining the fact that we are not just colleagues but true friends. We help hold each other together, we cheer each other on, and half the time, we crack each other up!
It’s been an exciting launch phase for Mothers & Shakers and we have BIG plans for the next quarter.

I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. . . . In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness.” – Henri Thoreau in Walden
